Pea Shelling Ritual & Fresh Southern Field Peas - TASTE of HISTORY & Southern Folk Culture

Southern Field Peas & Beans are Southern Spring & Summer Jewels. Lusciously flavorful field peas have nourished Southerners for generations. Enjoy a taste! We customarily enjoy fresh field peas with hot Buttermilk Cornbread. Yum!  Watch as we bake up a pan of Buttermilk Cornbread from scratch. Add a plop of Chow-Chow, (a heritage Southern relish). Explore the international journey of this beloved Southern vegetable in our multisensory Traveling Trunk show. Discover the indigenous roots of Southern cornbread. Come June 2024, do some "pea picking" yourself & participate in a time-honored foodway ritual. We'll bring some farm fresh pea ready to shell. Gather a small group & join in this multisensory warm weather Southern ritual.
